National Minority Donor Awareness Week  
Observed Annually August 1 - 7

Each year, National Minority Donor Awareness Week raises awareness of the need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors, especially among minorities.

This national observance honors all minorities who have been donors, and encourages others to register to give the gift of life and sight.

Minorities make up more than half of those currently on the organ donation waiting lists.

In 2014:

  • 42% of all those receiving transplants were minorities

  • 70% of minority transplant recipients received kidneys

  • 32% of all deceased donors were minorities
