Enrollment in NY State Registry opens to 16 and 17 year-olds

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation on August 18 allowing 16 and 17 year-olds the opportunity to document their donation decision by enrolling in our state's organ, eye and tissue donation registry.  A safeguard included in this legislation allows parents or legal guardians to rescind the decision if the minor dies before age 18.  Read more at https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-signs-legislation-authorizing-teens-make-organ-donations

EBAA Accreditation Board grants LEBR 3-year status

The Eye Bank Association of America's (EBAA) accreditation board has granted the Lions Eye Bank at Rochester a 3-year status for the recovery, tissue storage and final distrubiton of corneal tissue.  This comes after the EBAA conducted an on site inspection of the eye bank in April of this year. 

At least every three years a team of professionals with extensive experience in eye bank and/or corneal transplantation conduct on site inspections of eye banks to evaluate adherance to EBAA Medical Standards & procedures.  This accreditation process meets or exceeds most state and national regulations and encourages public confidence in eye banking.  

Winners of eye glass collection contest announced

Judges (L to R: Elizabeth Moreland, LEBR, and Bill Freeman (Webster Lions Club member) pictured with the most "eye catching" eyeglass collection box design. The contest was conducted by the Univeristy of Rochester's Facilities & Services Deparmtnet during March.  The initiative collected 330 pairs of used eyeglasses.  These will be given to the Webster Lions Club and sent to a facility where they are cleaned, measured for prescription strength and sent to developing countries to be distributed - free- to those in need.  Congratulations go to the Neurodevelopment & Behavioral Pediatrics department for collecting the highest number of eyeglasses; and to the Rush Rhees Patron Services department for designing the most "eye catching" collection box.  

 

Lions Eye Bank at Rochester Teams Up With Monroe County Clerk's Office

Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello speaks at a news conference held at the Greece DMV Branch on Thursday, April 14, kicking off a two-day donor enrollment drive during National Donate Life Month.  Lions Eye Bank at Rochester, Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network and the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation teamed up with the County Clerk's office to promote the need for and benefits of eye, organ and tissue donation.
